ADG Attains New Web Capabilities

By Alex Razzook, National Student Representative

ADG has a new home in cyberspace; recently we changed internet hosting providers for a variety of reasons I would like to communicate to the brotherhood. In the past, we currently had an account with C-Logic® who provided our hosting and domain registration needs for the last couple years. Under the old setup, C-Logic was capable of only providing our most basic of needs: web-hosting, domain registration, and a functional list-srv capacity.

When I entered the office of Student Representative, taking the website to the next level and empowering the fraternity was one of the biggest goals and the Council was right behind me every step of the way. After a presentation of new web service option at the mist year council meeting in Philadelphia, we chose www.ipowerweb.com as our new service provider.

The website was rolled over to the new host and was only down for a couple hours. We also began formulating the new email accounts for the national officers and the council list-serve (council@alphadeltagamma.org). With our new email capabilities, we are able to professionally send emails.

Future plans are being implemented with chapter president email accounts being established and chapter external secretaries and treasurer's coming in the near future. We are currently working on a GUI (graphical user interface) for managing the current list-serve (i.e. members@alphadeltagamma.org), implementing advanced paypal features for managing monthly payments on paypal, the addition of message boards and online chat rooms, and the improved automation of our website as an online resource for the chapters.

Our new web service provider gives us enhanced capabilities for performing and competing in the cyberspace. The new web service is more cost effective with more enhanced features and is a distinct advantage over operating with C-Logic. There are many development opportunities for Alphadelt's out their including, but not limited to website development, graphic design, GUI & FORM designs & general website maintenance. If anyone's interested, please contact John Koehler (fraternity webmaster) at webmaster@alphadeltagamma.org.

2004 Spring Conference Report from Northern Kentucky

By Justin Simpson, Rho Chapter Executive Vice President

Spring Conference, yet again, proved to be another memorable National event. People were arriving at all hours on Friday, March 26th to join in the festivities located at either the new dorms at Rho Chapter's Thomas More College or the Speak Easy Bar & Grill. Truly a night to remember as Alpha Delta Gamma over took the deck area and made their presence known.

Saturday arrived earlier then ever as the meetings kicked off around 10:30am. We heard from all of the National Executive officers on topics ranging from Risk Management, where we heard examples of what to do and what not to do through the past experiences of some of our chapters. The future national insurance issue was also discussed that are becoming more of a pressing topic as the policy is due for renewal.

On a lighter note, we welcomed the two new colonies to the Fraternity. I am sure that I speak for everyone that we were impressed and feel they are a strong addition to the National Fraternity. These colonies will prove to be great brothers. We should all make it a point to visit them and check them out as they strive to become official chapters.

After the meetings concluded, we broke for some dinner headed over to the Hofbrauhaus (German Beer Brewery). This brewery was an amazing experience that can only be had at one of their two locations (Northern Kentucky and Munich Germany). I do not know about anyone else but my arm was hurting the next day due to the Liter beers they serve. We are looking forward to this summer's convention in Fort Lauderdale Florida on August 3rd through the 8th. Check out more information about that at: http://www.alphadeltagamma.org/
convention/2004/
I am sure the brothers at Psi will show us a good time on the beach and at the bars.

Alumni Fundraisers at Beta Chapter

By Joe Bazzetta, ADG National Red Carnation Editor

Over the past year, financial concerns at Beta have been a vice, squeezing the chapter's pocketbook by reducing the quality and number of a few events. Without raising dues, Beta is currently completing two fundraisers in hopes to elevate fiscal burdens. Both fundraisers focus on tapping into Beta Alumni for monetary donations. The first fundraiser included a massive "snail mail" campaign out of St. Louis to ask for donations of any size. At first the $300 cost of postage seems high, but this plan is paying off. Currently, Beta has profited three-fold initial cost-quite a good investment for just licking envelopes! A few older alumni have dropped significant sums of money back to their old Chapter, which will be put to good use.

The second fundraiser happening this month in April is the Beta Chapter's Annual Alumni Golf Tournament. Organized by past Beta Chapter president Chris Wiggins, on April 24th, Beta alumni nationwide will be coming back to the "Lou" to stroke it up for this fundraiser for the chapter. For a $55, Alumni and Actives that wish to participate will receive a full day of 18 holes, with all you can eat and drink. It should prove to be an excellent event. It will also be nice for new actives to meet some of our older alumni and realize that being a member of ADG is for life.

Alpha Cookie Dough Fundraiser

By Brad Reed, Past Alpha Chapter President

An Alpha Chapter tradition began several years ago when Wayne Palmer-Ball invited the brothers to his bakery in Wisconsin to help package tubs of cookie dough. Each fall we spend one Saturday filling small tubs with cookie dough, stacking boxes in the freezer and performing other odd jobs around the bakery that Wayne can find for us. This past fall semester, all eleven pledges, six actives, one national officer and one alumnus made the trip to Wayne's and, as usual, had a great time. Wayne certainly put us to work, but made us a terrific lunch and, as has also become tradition, opened his home to us afterwards to relax and have dinner. "Cookie dough," as we call it, is one of our biggest and most popular fundraisers of the year. More importantly, Wayne's generosity gives us an opportunity to show the pledges that our brotherhood survives and grows well beyond our college years.

News from Philly

By Nick Saunders, President of Philadelphia University Colony

As for the Philadelphia University colony, we are getting in nominations for a new executive board and other positions. On St. Patty's, our 2nd day of our "Green carnations for cancer sale" was held, and many flowers were purchased for this great cause. The Special Olympics was also participated in by the colony's members, and we will be participating possibly with the Chestnut Hill Colony. Myself and Jim DeRocker were able to make it to their pinning at the end of our spring beak and then got to know them all afterwards. The future looks really bright for our two groups together, as they will be joining us for "fundraisers" and getting to know each other. We plan on helping them through their candidacy process. We should get our website up and running by the end of the semester.
