Text Box: Board of Governors cont’d

It became clear to us over the course of the past couple of years, that when a National Officer visited, the National Office got information that they needed and help was more easily influenced upon the Chapter. And it was an endless up-and-down of Chapters performing effectively and appropriately based on those once-a-year visits.

Finally, the National Office can have more direct influence at a local level with the use of the Board of Governors. All Chapters are further encouraged to use the Governor assigned to them to the greatest potential of the position. He is there to help you more than he is there to help National.

Further, with National Finances at the brink of collapse at the time with a little more than $3000.00 to our name, the National Convention also agreed to the idea that compliance with the typical responsibilities of being a member of this organization will allow the induction of new members into the respective Chapter. As a result, only current National Officers and the National Governor assigned to a Chapter will be allowed to perform the Water and Wine Ceremony. Hence, only National is allowed to grant membership into the Fraternity.

It is time that we start, as members of Alpha Delta Gamma National Fraternity, to place more emphasis and importance on what it means to be a member of this Fraternity. “Membership” should not be taken lightly. We pride ourselves on not being another Fraternity, therefore we should hold higher pride to wear “ADG” across our chests. And further, membership should not be granted lightly and without a higher mode of seriousness and respect.

The Board of Governors are the very key to this aspect - of remembering what membership should mean to our actives and, hence, being allowed to grant that membership upon those who demonstrate their True Brotherhood favorably.

“Membership” is going to be another main focus of this coming Conference in St. Louis and Convention in Los Angeles as we have now redefined granting Active membership. So the next logical step is to redefine processes and thought-processes of going Inactive as well. Come to Conference to find out more. If we think so highly of being members of this Fraternity, we should not make the passage-way into and from the Walls of our City a revolving door.

Please let your Governor, National Council, or even the entire Board of Governors know how we can help. The Governor assigned to your Chapter is there locally to help you even faster than what the Council’s e-mails and telephone calls will allow. Please let us know if you have any questions.
