trying to branch out on my own, create my own life. Nationally, I don’t know where I’ll be at that time, but hopefully I’ll become a little more active with them. In 10 years, it will be an entirely different point in my life. Maybe I might not be as involved on the local level, but I would still try to make certain events (Laetare Sunday, U-Night). Nationally, I see myself attending more conventions. In 25 years, locally, I hope to come back see how much the chapter has grown, see what kind of people we’ve fostered, see who’s my great, great (etc.) grandson, things of that nature. Nationally, hopefully I can help out, maybe as a parliamentarian, convention steward, or similar. One week away from everything [for Convention] will be more appreciated.
Q: What do you think the chapters can do at the local level to promote a longer lasting relationship with recent grads and alums in order to keep a lifelong involvement over the years?
Gamm: Always keeping in contact. Evite has helped out a lot; we still get no-shows but a lot of thanks for taking the time to write. For those that stay local, there’s no harm in inviting them out to the bars, make them feel like they are still a part of the fraternity. We should try to keep everyone involved.
Q: Can I get some recipes from your mother?
Gamm: How about a stuffed pepper recipe from my grandma?

We are looking to continue this section, so if you would like to participate, e-mail taylora@cua.edu.
Text Box: Every two years, the Nationally Assembly gathers to elect a chosen group of individuals to lead the fraternity for the following two years. This past August, elections were held and new Executive Council answered the call to duty. This Convention marked the second election to encompass the new Council structure.

This year’s Council brings with it a diversity of chapter representation as well as experience. National President Derrick Cabrera, Beta Chapter, has served two consecutive terms as Vice President as well as National Student Representative. National Vice President of Finance, Mike Blackstock of Epsilon Chapter, is a Past National President as well as past National Student Representative. Alex Razzook, Kappa Chapter, National Vice President of External Affairs, has also served previously on the Council, holding the position of National Student Representative. Danny Rocha, Lambda Chapter, National Vice President of Internal Affairs and Guillermo Aguero, Rho Chapter, National Student Representative are both newcomers to the Council but bring with them a wealth of experience on the chapter level, each serving as chapter presidents respectively.

The Council is rounded out by National Moderator, Mark Ryan, Beta Chapter, our Jesuit in training, Bryan Lind, Beta, Past National President and myself, past National Student Representative, National Vice President of External Affairs and current Executive Vice President. The path that we want to take this Fraternity is a clear one. Our Brotherhood comes first, as well as redefining what that brotherhood means to every Alpha Delt. The 21st Century provides many new challenges that past officers and members could never have imagined. Yet this Council is prepared to take these challenges head on and will continue to serve you, the active member. Should ever a question arise, do not hesitate to contact a member of the Council.

Ad Dei Gloriam!

James Smith
National Executive Vice President
Kappa Chapter, Spring ‘99
